Residential Interior Design in Kuala Lumpur

Your home should feel like yours — not like a showroom, not like a catalogue page, and definitely not like your designer’s personal project. That’s always been my starting point. In over 15 years of residential design across KL, the projects I’m most proud of are the ones where visitors say, “This is so you” to the homeowner.

As a MIID-certified interior architect, I bring something beyond aesthetics to residential projects. I understand structure — which walls can move, how plumbing and electrical systems interact with layout changes, and what’s structurally feasible versus what looks good only in a mood board. That practical foundation means fewer surprises during renovation and better outcomes at handover.

Property Types I Work With

Condominiums

From compact studios to luxury penthouses, condos are my most common residential project type. Condo design requires creative spatial solutions, awareness of management rules, and the ability to make every square foot count.

Landed Houses — Terraces, Semi-Ds, Bungalows

Landed homes offer more design freedom but also more complexity. Structural changes, extensions, outdoor-indoor flow, multi-storey planning, and integration with gardens all come into play.

New Homes vs Renovation

Whether you’re designing from scratch (bare unit) or renovating an existing home, the approach differs. New homes start with pure spatial planning. Renovations require understanding what to keep, what to update, and what to replace — a more nuanced process that benefits from experienced judgement.

My Approach

I believe the best residential interiors emerge from genuine conversation. Before I sketch a single layout option, I want to know how you live:

  • Do you cook daily, or is the kitchen mostly a coffee station?
  • Do you work from home? How many hours a day?
  • Do you host often? Formally or casually?
  • What frustrates you about your current space?
  • What one thing would make the biggest difference?

These questions matter more than “What’s your favourite style?” — because style follows function, not the other way around.

Once I understand your life, I design around it. The result is a space that looks beautiful AND works effortlessly for how you actually live.

How Much Does Residential Interior Design Cost?

Residential interior design in KL ranges from approximately RM40 to RM250+ per square foot, depending on:

  • Property type (condo vs landed)
  • Finish level (budget to luxury)
  • Scope of work (cosmetic refresh vs full renovation)
  • Built-in furniture complexity

For a 1,200 sqft condo at mid-range finish, expect approximately RM85,000-155,000 all-in. For a 2,500 sqft semi-D, expect RM200,000-500,000+.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an interior designer, or is a contractor enough?

If your renovation involves layout changes, built-in furniture, or creating a cohesive design throughout your home, a designer adds significant value. Contractors excel at execution; designers excel at planning and problem-solving. For simple tasks like repainting or replacing tiles, a contractor alone may suffice.

What’s the difference between an interior designer and an interior architect?

An interior architect has training in spatial planning, structural understanding, and building systems — not just aesthetics. This matters when you want to move walls, reconfigure layouts, or make structural changes.

How long does a residential renovation take?

Design phase: 4-8 weeks. Construction: 8-20 weeks depending on property type and scope. Total timeline: typically 3-6 months from first meeting to move-in.

Can I see the design before committing to renovation?

Absolutely. I provide 3D visualisations so you can see exactly how your space will look before any construction begins. This removes guesswork and prevents expensive mid-project changes.

What areas in KL do you serve?

I’m based in Bangsar and serve all of KL and the Klang Valley — from KLCC to Cyberjaya. See all areas →

Do you offer design-only services?

Yes. I offer both design-and-build (full turnkey) and design-only packages. Design-only means you receive complete drawings, renders, and specifications to take to your own contractor.
